Congratulations to John Boscardin, Irena Cenzer, Yinghui Miao, and Kate Kirby!

John Boscardin, Irena Cenzer, Yinghui Miao, and Kate Kirby won an award for Best Contributed Presentation at the Western Users of SAS Software (WUSS) Conference earlier this month. Their paper "Estimating Harrell’s Optimism on Predictive Indices Using Bootstrap Samples.” The paper described a SAS macro developed by Yinghui that estimates the degree of over-fitting in a prognostic model without the need for split-sample validation; the macro has already proven useful to several of the Division's research faculty in their work on prediction. Irena took the lead on writing the paper and giving the oral presentation. Kate contributed the all-important example from her work with Seth Landefeld’s ACE data. John conceived of the idea for the project and provided mentoring to the team. More to follow by next year, as the award covers the registration cost for WUSS 2013!
