  Cyrus Ahalt recieves fellowship award
Apr 11, 2013 Cyrus Ahalt, a Clinical Research Coordinator in the Division, recently received a fellowship award to attend the Academic and Health Policy Conference on Correctional Health in Chicago, IL. The award was sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Jacob & Valeria Langeloth Foundation. Cyrus presented a poster entitled “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Older Jail Inmates”, reporting results of a study conducted with colleagues from the Division of Geriatrics, Brie Williams and Irena Stijacic-Cenzer, and Mi-Suk Kang Dufour and Janet Myers of the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies, also at UCSF

Apr 11, 2013 Please welcome Juliet Pult to our clinical team here at Laurel Heights! Many of you have met her already as she’s been orienting with Ginger. Juliet has a wealth of experience providing frontline clinical support care for patients at UCSF Medical Center. She is joining our team as the UCSF Care Support Program Coordinator and we are thrilled to have her.

Apr 11, 2013 John Newman was selected as the recipient of a Glenn Award for Research in Biological Mechanisms of Aging. The Glenn Awards, which "provide unsolicited funds to researchers investigating the biology of aging" are sponsored by the Glenn Foundation for Medical Research,a major national philanthropic funder of research into the biology of aging. The announcement came at the Spring 2013 Bay Area Aging Meeting, a biannual research conference including scientists from UCSF, Gladstone Institutes, UC Berkeley, Stanford and the Buck Institute that is sponsored by the Glenn Foundation. The award will support Dr. Newman's work with his mentor Eric Verdin on novel biological functions of ketone bodies in the aging process.

  Anna Chang is the new Chair of the Teachers Section!
Apr 11, 2013 Anna Chang will be assuming the role of Chair of the Teachers Section effective in May 2013 at the AGS meeting. Anna received the second highest vote total at the Teachers Section Chair election and therefore was the alternate for Teachers Section Chair. Congratulations Anna!

  Louise Walter is the lead author on a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine
Apr 16, 2013 Louise Walter is the lead author on a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine on April 15th about the 5-year downstream outcomes following PSA screening in older men. Co-authors include Kathy Fung; Katharine Kirby; Ying Shi; Roxanne Espaldon; Sarah O’Brien; Stephen J. Freedland; Adam A. Powell; and Richard M. Hoffman.
