  Welcome Nicole Thompson
Aug 05, 2014 Please welcome Nicole Thompson a new Clinical Research Coordinator who will be working with Dr. Ritchie on several research projects related to applied clinical research in older persons or those with serious illness.

Nicole graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2003 with a BA in Sociology and Art Studio. She was previously a Project Director of a large multi-site clinical innovation and dissemination project based at The Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. In her new role in the Division, she will be managing Dr. Ritchie’s active clinical research projects, recruiting, enrolling and interviewing participants, and coordinating tasks on several of Dr. Ritchie’s concurrent studies. Nicole will be based out of the Laurel Heights campus but will be traveling to the Jewish Home and Mount Zion.

If you have not already met Nicole, please introduce yourself and welcome her to the Division.

  Grantmakers In Aging | Fellows Program
Aug 05, 2014 Meredith Greene and Roya Fathi were selected as fellows in the prestigious Grantmakers in Aging Fellowship Program. The program selects a limited number of fellows per year from across multiple disciplines for their leadership in scholarship and improving the lives of older adults.

  Dr. Walter is the acting ACOS for GPEC
Aug 08, 2014 Louise Walter M.D., has been appointed as the Acting Associate Chief of Staff of Geriatrics, Palliative and Extended Care (GPEC) at the San Francisco VA. She will be working closely with all members of the GPEC service line so that we provide innovative person-centered care to older Veterans, conduct high impact research and train the next generation of clinicians to improve the care for all aging Americans.

  Carla and Ken Publish Editorial in JGIM
Aug 11, 2014 Carla Perissinotto and Ken Covinsky published an editorial, "Living Alone, Socially Isolated or Lonely—What are We Measuring?" in the current issue of the Journal of General Internal Medicine.

  Drs Walter & Perissinotto will be speaking at the Jewish Community Center
Aug 26, 2014 Louise Walter will be giving the Welcome remarks at the Jewish Community Center's annual Art of Aging Gracefully Resource Fair on Thursday, April 30, 2015. Carla Perissinotto has been invited to be one of four guest speakers and she will give a talk on Loneliness. This fair is open to the public and is free. There will be flyers made available to send to patients or interested parties once they become available.

  Andreana Ososki is our new GPEC Business Manager
Aug 26, 2014 We are delighted to announce that Andreana Ososki, PhD has accepted the position of Business Manager for the SFVAMC Geriatrics Palliative and Extended Care (GPEC) Service. She will start on September 8th. Andreana has been with the SFVAMC for the past 6 years, and has worked as a program analyst for the Chief of Staff office, and most recently, as the medical staff coordinator in Quality Improvement. Prior to her time with the VA, she was involved in teaching and science education as well as research in Ethnobotany. We feel very lucky to have someone with such a great skill set join our service! Also, many thanks to Jennifer Chu for her willingness to be the acting AO these past few years, and thanks as well to the other staff who have stepped in to help.
