  Dr. Williams & Cyrus Ahalt awarded a grant!
Sep 11, 2014 Brie Williams, MD and Cyrus Ahalt, MPP were awarded a grant from the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center based at UCSF and funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The goals of the 2-part pilot grant are to: 1) determine the factors associated with smoking cessation and relapse among recently released older jail inmates; and 2) adapt and conduct a smoking cessation training curriculum for jail-based clinicians that includes knowledge of strategies to support smoking cessation in jail and low/no-cost community smoking cessation resources for inmates to access following their release from jail.
 


  Dr. Smith & Rafael Romo receive award!
Sep 16, 2014 Alex Smith and Rafael Romo were awarded a Disparities Supplement from the National Institute on Aging to investigate (1) disparities in perceived prognosis; and (2) impact of disparities in perceived prognosis on disparities in care at the end of life.

Sep 16, 2014 We had a team of 15 staff, faculty, family and friends representing the Division of Geriatrics #TeamAging at the UCSF Mission Bay 5k Hardhat Walk on September 6.

  VA Superstar Award
Sep 22, 2014 Tony Ball, who has been the housekeeping aid for Geriatrics, Palliative and Extended Care at the San Francisco VA Medical Center for the past few years received a VA Superstar Award on Wednesday, September 24 in recognition of his outstanding customer service, attention to detail, and willingness to go the extra mile to make our environment a pleasure in which to work. Tony received a record number of nominations for this award.

  Dr. Barb Drye Joins the Division of Geriatrics
Sep 22, 2014 Dr. Barb Drye has officially joined the Geriatrics Division at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. Dr. Drye is board-certified in palliative medicine. She directs the San Francisco VA Palliative Medicine Outpatient Clinic which provides intensive symptom management to veterans with serious illness.
 


  Dr. Williams awarded grant from NIA!
Sep 22, 2014 Brie Williams, MD was awarded a Supplement for Aging Research on Health Disparities from the National Institute on Aging to extend work being conducted by the UCSF Division of Geriatrics’ Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center. The goal of the grant, entitled “Health and function disparities between jail and community-dwelling older adults,” is to describe differences in health and to examine drivers of health disparities between older adults in jail and older adults in the community.
