The Division of Geriatrics is delighted to offer a free screening of the documentary  DO I NEED THIS? on Thursday February 13 at UCSF Parnassus campus in Cole Hall auditorium. The film screening is from 4:00 – 5:00, followed by a panel discussion from 5:00 – 5:30 to discuss issues that the film brings up, and a reception from 5:30 – 6:00 to meet the filmmaker, Kate Schermerhorn. There is no charge to attend. Popcorn and drinks will be provided during the film.  If you are interested in attending, please RSVP online at DINT.eventbrite.com.

Kate Schermerhorn's very relatable documentary film DO I NEED THIS? follows her family’s process and emotions as her aging parents downsized into assisted living and dealt with illness. People in the film describe their struggles to separate between treasured mementos versus the actual memories of their past, showing how memories change over time. The film is a fascinating documentary showing the progression of a woman’s dementia and her family’s incredible dedication to her quality of life. The candid record of this journey resonates with people in a multitude of ways.  PBS has accepted the film for broadcast but has not yet announced a premiere date.
