Welcome to 2025-2026 Geriatrics and GeriPal Fellows!

IT IS JULY! This means that our new Geriatric Medicine and GeriPal fellows for 2025-2026 are here!

We are thrilled to introduce them to you. See below for the little blurbs about their backgrounds and amazing accomplishments. They are getting settled during the first week of July, spending time in the VA, for orientation activities and onboarding.

Geriatric Medicine

Brittany Barba

Brittany Barba (She/her)

Brittany completed an MPH at UCLA and medical school at Ross University. She is finishing her Internal Medicine residency at Eisenhower Health. Her extraordinary commitment to geriatrics is seen throughout her career. Prior to medical school, she worked as a project manager within the UCLA GWEP and MSTAR program, and during medical school, she was the project manager on a program to support older adults experiencing social isolation and loneliness during the pandemic. She was closely involved with the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion GME committee during residency. She is interested in academic primary care. She enjoys landscape jigsaw puzzles!  

Janice (Jan) Grandi

Janice (Jan) Grandi (She/her)

Jan completed medical school at UCSF (welcome back!) and is finishing Internal Medicine residency at UCLA. Jan also has long-standing interests in geriatrics, including being a MSTAR student, and developing a workplace learning and outreach program to isolated older adults in UCSF during the COVID pandemic, and her works have been published in JAGS. She is dedicated to medical education and completed the UCLA Med Ed Pathway by creating a med student elective on primary care for those with housing instability. Furthermore, she taught IM residents about the Age-Friendly Health System. Jan was the co-chair for her residency’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Recruitment Committee.  She loves outdoor activities, and we are also welcoming her senior dogs into our fellowship!   

Noah Gunningham

Noah completed medical school at University of Washington and is currently the chief resident for the Family Medicine residency program at Family Health Centers of San Diego. We see their leadership skills starting from medical school when they ran 3 student-run clinics in the greater Seattle area to their work on residency program improvement. They completed the HIV track in residency and is working toward board certification in this specialty. They are a strong advocate for those who are underserved and underrepresented in medicine. Their hobbies include reading and writing poetry, and they are also very much into ornithology!  

Lydia Tortorici

Lydia Tortorici (They/Them)

Lydia completed medical school at Florida State University, College of Medicine Reginal Medical School Campus- Tallahassee. They finished family medicine residency at Allina Health United Family Medicine Residency in Saint Paul, MN. They come with strong advocacy background, including being the co-chair and founder for healthcare for all and related to reproductive rights. During residency, they worked with a local mental health organization to bring primary care home visits to those living with mental health conditions and being home bound. They were involved in the ethics committee and residency involvement committee. Lydia enjoys a wide range of activities, including record collecting, gardening, yoga, cycling, and attending live music and comedy shows!

Noam Margalit

Noam completed medical school at the University of Chicago and finished residency in UCSF internal medicine primary care. Prior to medical training, she was a case worker in the Boston South End. She carried her passions in philosophy, ethics, and medical education with her throughout her training, and her creative scholarship is endless. She has publications in Medical Education on peer education and feedback from her work in medical school. She’s developed UCSF medical student curriculum related to caregiver communication. She has been involved with the Ethics Committee since medical school, during research time in Memorial Sloan Kettering), and now in UCSF. She enjoys road tripping, exploring national parks, and cooking without recipes!
