Welcome Courtney Maa!

Please join us in welcoming Courtney MaaNCIRE Research Assistant III, to the Division!

Courtney started this morning remotely and will be supporting Drs. Alex Smith and Sei Lee on their research studies focused on improving the health of older persons.  Courtney earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Science specializing in Physiology and Metabolism from UC Berkeley and a Master of Science degree in Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition specializing in Cognitive Neuroscience from the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy.  Courtney is passionate about improving the quality of care for both younger and older patients, optimizing health and quality of life, symptom maintenance, health-promoting food environments, and transparent (and evidence-based) communication and education of nutrition information.  In her most recent role as Graduate Researcher at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Courtney conducted data analysis on factors of anemia among Tanzanian children and Tanzanian women.  Prior to that role, she was a Research Assistant at Impossible Foods where she supported the nutritional research and the nutritional assessments of plant-based products and led Burger King's frozen and refrigerated shelf-life studies.  Courtney was a R&D Physiological Modeling, and Simulations Engineer InnovoSciences.  There, she learned wet lab techniques, created and modified SOPs, designed experiments, and ran aerosol tests using vaporizer prototypes.  In her spare time, Courtney likes to volunteer.

She will work alongside with her PIs, and Brian Nguyen (also her onboarding buddy), as well as statisticians and other research team members, to help move projects forward.  She can be reached at [email protected]. Please join us in welcoming Courtney to the team!
