Welcome Dr. Margarita Sotelo!

We are excited to welcome Dr. Margarita M. Sotelo, MD, MPH to the UCSF Division of Geriatrics as an MSP Staff Physician, effective April 13, 2026. Her clinical work will focus on the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) Short-Stay Rehabilitation Unit and UCSF Stanyan Hospital Geriatrics Inpatient Services, where she will provide comprehensive geriatric care and work closely with interdisciplinary teams, fellows, and residents.

 Dr. Sotelo’s work focuses on improving care for older adults through interprofessional collaboration and quality improvement initiatives, including patient safety, falls prevention, and inpatient care optimization. She earned her MD from the University of Iowa, completed her Internal Medicine residency at the University of Iowa and Geriatric Medicine fellowship at UCSF, and holds an MPH from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.

Dr. Sotelo brings extensive experience in geriatrics and hospital medicine across academic and VA health care systems. Most recently, she served as Medical Director of the Acute Care for Elders (ACE) Consult Service at the VA Northern California Health Care System in Mather. She has also held leadership and academic roles at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and in the UCSF Geriatrics Division and we are excited to welcome her back!
