Welcome Haley Shiff!

Please join us in welcoming Haley Shiff, Clinical Research Coordinator, to the Division of Geriatrics!

Haley started this morning and will be working closely with Drs. Theresa Allison and Mike Steinman on their studies focused on reducing health care disparities and improving the health of older adults.  Haley has a Master of Science degree in the Epidemiology of Aging from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, as well as two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Human Biology and Public Health from Brown University.  Most recently, she worked for Genentech in their Product Development-Global Medical Affairs department as a Summer Associate supporting Dr. Ruma Bhagat, Senior Science Leader of the Health Equity and Population Science initiative.  Prior to that, she was a Research Assistant for the Aging Brain Center at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research, Hebrew SeniorLife in Boston and a Research Intern for Massachusetts General Hospital, where she assisted research coordinators in recruitment and retention of study subjects, protocol updates, and patient visit logistics.  Haley is not new to UCSF or the VA systems since she was a Research Assistant at UCSF Institute for Health and Aging and a Research Assistant at the Palo Alto VA Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center in 2017.  Haley is very interested in the intersection between health disparities and aging, and has developed a passion for using data analysis to answer health care questions in graduate school.  Last but not least, Haley was a Senior Wellness Program Volunteer for the Academic Public Health Volunteer Corps, and co-authored a publication on “Neighborhood-Level Social Disadvantage and Risk of Delirium Following Major Surgery” in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

In her new role as CRC, Haley will coordinate participant recruitments, administer surveys and validated measures, conduct interviews, collect and analyze data using quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as support other day-to-day research operations for multiple studies.  We are very excited to work with Haley and thrilled that she has chosen to join our growing team!  Haley’s Onboarding Buddy will be Emily Reyes (thank you Emily!)  Please join us in welcoming Haley to the Division, she can be reached at [email protected].  Thank you for your attention!
