Welcome Shira Rutman!
Please join us in welcoming Shira Rutman, Project Director to the UCSF Division of Geriatrics!
Shira joined the Division on Monday, July 1st, and will be working closely with Krista Harrison, PhD on the Hospice Equity for people impacted by Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias (HEARD) study funded by the NIH. Shira will serve a dual role in Geriatrics while continuing her Project Director position in the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies (IHPS) on Dr. Mara Decker’s team. Shira began at IHPS in 2017 where she currently manages evaluation activities for a virtual intervention for youth in rural areas nationwide to improve sexual health and healthy life skills, as well as other research projects for which she designs analyses, supervises staff, and develops funding proposals. Shira brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our growing team. Since graduating from the University of Washington with a Master of Public Health in 2006, much of Shira's work has been led by American Indian and Alaska Native partners on topics such as adolescent health, reproductive health, sexual violence, infant mortality, and social influences on health. She also works as a Contractor for Miami Nation Enterprises on multiple projects, including providing technical assistance for state/Tribal Family and Youth Services Bureau grantees on adolescent sexual health education programs. Shira’s other past roles include Research Coordinator at UCSFs Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. Shira has a long list of peer-reviewed publications covering topics she’s passionate about! Check them out: https://profiles.ucsf.edu/shira.rutman
In her new role on our team as HEARD Project Director, Shira will work closely with Dr. Harrison to oversee project design & implementation, as well as finance, operations, and HR. She’s already been working closely with the core admin team to hire an Assistant Clinical Research Coordinator and has already joined some of our Division events! We’re looking forward to seeing more of Shira and giving her a warm welcome to the team. She will be stationed at Mission Bay, cubicle 8128 (outside Krista’s Office) and can be reached via [email protected]. Swing by and say hi when you have chance!
