Janice Schwartz, MD and colleagues Mimi Tarn and Kein Shih of UCLA published in the December issue of JAGS a paper entitled: Reasons for non-adherence to the direct oral anticoagulant apixaban for atrial fibrillation. Focus groups identified six top reasons: cost, bleeding, lack of symptoms, believing it was safe to skip doses, lack of measurable effects and discordant physician-patient communication.
