Geri Spotlight: Ale Tello and Dianne Georgetti
The Geriatrics Spotlight initiative fosters community building within the Division, especially during this age of hybrid/remote work where it can be challenging to find ways to interact with colleagues outside of your immediate teams. This is a way for Division members to learn more about all the wonderful work we’re doing!
This week, we get to know our division members, Ale Tello and Dianne Georgetti.

About Ale’s Role/Ongoing Projects
One project Ale is working on is building Tableau dashboards for training and evaluation data sets. She is always excited to see all the things people share about the program, where they are located, the organization types, and what people do- whether they are providers, nurses, etc. "The outreach piece of the program is super cool". Another exciting project Ale is leveraging her research background. Through exploratory data analysis, Ale can focus on what stories need to be told and what trainings need to be implemented. The statistical analysis points towards the writing of abstracts and papers that highlight the work. These projects develop an understanding that is crucial- can training be adapted or updated to provide PCPs with the tools they need to serve their clients without being experts at everything? In turn, this advances health equity for the clients. Examples of program successes are billing codes specifically for Medi-Cal, promoting and valuing the time of PCPs, populations having tests and preventive care appts. before the advancement of disease.
Her favorite aspect of her position is exploring the data and seeing what route to follow. After 2 years of implementation, it is now a well-deserved moment of reflection, and she loves doing that through data.
What is a professional goal you would like to accomplish by the end of this year?
Ale's professional goal for this year is to enroll 2 health plan pilot sites that are willing to allow a walk-through of the incorporation of program tools such as value-based care, changes in implementation strategy, and involvement of caregivers in decision making. Looking at data such as how many readmissions there are for people over 65 years old will enable validation of the program strategies.

About Dianne’s Role/Ongoing Projects
Dianne is currently working on a geriatric consult program for people living with HIV. Previously, this role was based in the clinic, but frequent no-shows—likely due to transportation challenges and other barriers—made it difficult to provide consistent care. In its new iteration, the program allows her to visit patients in their homes, providing a more holistic approach to their care. Seeing their living conditions firsthand gives her a deeper understanding of their needs, allowing her to create more personalized care plans for this vulnerable population. By conducting home visits, Dianne is gaining a more comprehensive view of patients’ lives, particularly the ways in which isolation and loneliness affect their well-being. Many of her patients have family members who live far away, and as they age, they begin to lose friends and support systems. These visits not only improve the medical care they receive but also offer moments of joy and human connection, helping to counteract their loneliness.
Her favorite aspect of her position is the people/patients; she loves them, and her interactions with them bring her lots of joy and opportunities to learn from their wisdom. She feels it's always a gift to interact with them.
What is a professional goal you would like to accomplish by the end of this year?
Dianne's professional goal is to expand her work in global health, and she will travel to Kenya to learn about healthcare barriers for older adults.
