Patty Myung Appointed Acting Medical Director of the Community Living Center

We are pleased to announce that Patty Myung, MD, has been selected as the Acting Medical Director of the Community Living Center (CLC) at San Francisco VA Health Care System (SFVAHCS). Dr. Myung received her BA in Community Health from Brown University and her MD from Brown University’s Warren Alpert School of Medicine and completed a residency in Family & Community Medicine at the University of California, Irvine. She moved to the Bay Area to work at West Berkeley Family Practice/Lifelong Medical Care, then worked for 14 years at Laguna Honda Hospital & Rehabilitation Center. This is one of the largest, public, skilled nursing facilities in the US, where she provided long-term care and palliative care, particularly on the HIV-focus unit. In 2013, Dr. Myung received additional certification from the American Academy of HIV Medicine for her expertise in this area. She has been a clinician consultant for the National HIV/AIDS Clinicians’ Consultation Center at UCSF/SFGH. In addition, she served as a preceptor for UCSF Family Medicine residents at Laguna Honda Hospital & Rehabilitation Center during their long-term care longitudinal rotation.

In August 2024, we were fortunate to recruit Dr. Myung to the SFVAHCS CLC, where she provides exceptional post-acute and long-term care to medically and psychosocially complex Veterans. She is also a valued preceptor for our Geriatric Medicine fellows in the CLC, helping them learn the knowledge and skills to provide outstanding care in skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Myung’s extensive experience and dedication to improving the health of vulnerable populations and training the next generation of clinicians underscores how fortunate we are that she is now the Acting Medical Director of the CLC. We have launched a national search for the permanent Medical Director of the CLC, and thank the search committee members, including Dr. Myung, for serving on this committee.
