UCSF Hosts Virtual Event for Ageism Awareness Day on October 9, 2024
The UCSF Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program Alums (DICPA) are hosting a virtual event on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, to mark Ageism Awareness Day, highlighting the pervasive impact of ageism in society, including within UCSF itself.
Ageism—defined as stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination based on age—negatively influences how we think, feel, and act toward others and ourselves, leading to worsened outcomes and compounding other disadvantages.
The event encourages attendees to take proactive steps against ageism by learning, speaking out, and engaging in actions that promote age equity. DICPA will provide attendees with a wealth of resources, including book recommendations, podcasts, journal articles, and websites, to deepen their understanding of ageism’s effects.
Participants are also invited to complete a survey to get involved with the UCSF Ageism Awareness and Action Coalition, which is dedicated to addressing ageism within the UCSF community and beyond.
If you would like to get involved in ageism awareness at UCSF, please complete this survey.
