Please join us in welcoming Dr. Deepa Dharmarajan (Professor) to the Division!
Dr. Deepa Dharmarajan received her M.B.B.S. from the University of Calicut Medical College, completed her Family Medicine Residency at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and her Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Banner Health (formerly Sun Health/St. Joseph’s). She is dually boarded in Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine. Prior to coming to UCSF, Dr. Dharmarajan was the Medical Director at Beatitudes Care-Center and Hospice of the Valley, both in Phoenix, Arizona. She is also Founder and Geriatrician at Your Visiting Doctor, LLC in Peoria as well as Arizona Valley Clinic, LLC in Glendale. Dr. Dharmarajan is passionate about delivering patient-centric geriatric care, utilizing the latest advances in gerontology and fostering in-depth relationships with patients and their families, no matter their socio-economic backgrounds. As a medical student, Dr. Dharmarajan witnessed firsthand the negative effects of economic disadvantage on healthcare and its outcomes were widespread in India. These experiences informed and shaped her perspective as a physician to help her better understand the critical importance of identifying and overcoming economic disparities as a leader in the medical community. Even in the US, particularly when she worked in Arizona, Dr. Dharmarajan encountered similar economic and health disparities in the patient population she served. As a leader in her field, and in her new role at UCSF hopes to continue to combat healthcare inequalities among disadvantaged communities and create a more inclusive and responsive environment for geriatric patients. Dr. Dharmarajan will primarily work in UCSF Care at Home and will also see patients in the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) Short-Stay Rehabilitation Unit. Dr. Dharmarajan can be reached at [email protected].
