Welcome Jasmine Wong!
Please join us in welcoming Jasmine Wong, PREPARE Project Assistant, to the Division!
Jasmine was onboarded remotely this morning and will be supporting Dr. Rebecca Sudore and her PREPARE for Your Care Team in research projects focused on investigating and improving healthcare communication and decision making in older persons. Jasmine graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, and holds a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from SF State. With close to three years of Volunteer Medic experience at the Berkeley Free Clinic (where she still volunteers), Jasmine is familiar with providing individualized patient care and counseling. As a Volunteer Medic, Jasmine provides direct medical services including STI/HIV screens, UTI treatments, pregnancy tests, and other acute primary care needs primarily to low-income, uninsured, homeless, and/or LGBTQ+ patient populations in the Bay Area. Jasmine is no stranger to UCSF, because she also worked as a Research Technician for the Knight Lab between 2018 and 2019, where she spearheaded the development of new protocols to determine if the estrous stage influences homeostatic thirst. There, she collaborated with USC on specialized equipment use and utilized complex procedures such as stereotaxic surgery and optogenetics to complete her projects. Additionally, Jasmine volunteered at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation (PAMF), where she digitized hundreds of patient files to an electronic medical record system; coordinated with external hospitals to gather patient information; and managed medical supply inventory to ensure smooth clinic functioning. Outside of work, Jasmine enjoys running half-marathons, playing tennis, singing musical mashups, and playing the piano and ukulele! As a prospective medical student, Jasmine hopes to use her role on the PREPARE Team as an opportunity to gain valuable perspective on caring for older patients, communicating with their family members, and navigating difficult medical decisions. As PREPARE Project Assistant, Jasmine will be providing support on research operations related to advance care planning. Projects may include working on the PREPARE website, videos and other material developments and review, as well as advance care planning outreach and social media efforts. We are extremely excited to start working Jasmine and look forward to the much-needed support she will provide to the team! If you need to get a hold of Jasmine, her email is: [email protected]. Welcome Jasmine!
