Welcome to 2025-2026 Geriatrics and GeriPal Fellows!
We are thrilled to introduce our 2025-2026 Geriatric Medicine and Integrated Geri-Pal Class!!! They will join our UCSF Division of Geriatrics family in July 2025!
Many thanks to the members within our recruitment committee for the hours of dedication in reviewing applications and interviewing, to our DEI champions who advocated for those who have traveled in their lives, to Elaine who set up the master interview schedule, and to Paula and Karen for running the interview season and keeping us organized!
Here is a little blurb about our incoming fellows’ amazing accomplishments and backgrounds for a virtual introduction. Please feel free to extend the welcome to them directly!
Geriatric Medicine
Brittany Barba (She/her)
Brittany completed an MPH at UCLA and medical school at Ross University. She is finishing her Internal Medicine residency at Eisenhower Health. Her extraordinary commitment to geriatrics is seen throughout her career. Prior to medical school, she worked as a project manager within the UCLA GWEP and MSTAR program, and during medical school, she was the project manager on a program to support older adults experiencing social isolation and loneliness during the pandemic. She is currently closely involved with the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion GME committee. She is interested in academic primary care. She enjoys landscape jigsaw puzzles!
Janice (Jan) Grandi (She/her)
Jan completed medical school at UCSF (welcome back!) and is finishing Internal Medicine residency at UCLA. Jan also has long-standing interests in geriatrics, including being a MSTAR student, and developing a workplace learning and outreach program to isolated older adults in UCSF during the COVID pandemic, and her works have been published in JAGS. She is dedicated to medical education and is completing the UCLA Med Ed Pathway, through which she is creating and implementing a medical student elective on primary care for those with housing instability. Furthermore, she is teaching IM residents about the Age-Friendly Health System. Jan is the co-chair for her residency’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Recruitment Committee. She loves outdoor activities, and we will also be welcoming her senior dogs into our fellowship!
Noah Gunningham (He/Him)
Noah completed medical school at University of Washington and is currently the chief resident for the Family Medicine residency program at Family Health Centers of San Diego. We see his leadership skills starting from his medical school when he ran 3 student-run clinics in the greater Seattle area to now at the residency level to work on program improvement. He has completed the HIV track in residency and is working toward board certification in this specialty. He is a strong advocate for those who are underserved and underrepresented in medicine. He loves reading and writing poetry, and is also very much into ornithology!
Lydia Tortorici (They/Them)
Lydia completed medical school at Florida State University, College of Medicine Reginal Medical School Campus- Tallahassee. They are finishing family medicine residency at Allina Health United Family Medicine Residency in Saint Paul, MN. They come with strong advocacy background, including being the co-chair and founder for healthcare for all and related to reproductive rights. During residency, they are working with a local mental health organization to bring primary care home visits to those living with mental health conditions and being home bound. They are involved in the ethics committee and residency involvement committee. Lydia enjoys a wide range of activities, including record collecting, gardening, yoga, cycling, and attending live music and comedy shows!
Integrated Geriatric-Palliative Care
Margalit, Noam (She/Her)
Noam completed medical school at the University of Chicago and is now finishing residency in UCSF internal medicine primary care. Prior to medical training, she was a case worker in the Boston South End. She carried her passions in philosophy, ethics, and medical education with her throughout her training, and her creative scholarship is endless. She has publications in Medical Education on peer education and feedback from her work in medical school. She’s developed UCSF medical student curriculum related to caregiver communication. She has been involved with the Ethics Committee since medical school, during research time in Memorial Sloan Kettering), and now in UCSF. She enjoys road tripping, exploring national parks, and cooking without recipes!
