Welcome Dr. Peter Curran!

This week we are excited to welcome Dr. Pete Curran to the UCSF Division of Geriatrics faculty starting on February 10, 2025.

Dr. Curran completed his internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, completed his cardiology fellowship at UCLA, and then practiced as an interventional cardiologist in the Bay Area until 2015 when he made a mid-career change to focus on home based primary care and moved to Washington DC to work in their VA Home Based Primary Care program.  He completed the VA’s Geriatrics Scholars Program and the Health and Aging Policy Fellowship sponsored by the John A. Hartford Foundation, working in the Office of US Senator Diane Feinstein.  He then became Medical Director of the Washington DC VA Home Based Primary Care program, which covers northern Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia. Under his leadership the Washington DC Home Based Primary Care program has been very successful, growing the number of admissions and adding a sixth team.  He also served as a clinical preceptor for six Geriatric and Palliative Medicine fellows and two nurse practitioner residents annually, teaching them about goals of care and home-based medical care.

Dr. Curran is a veteran himself, serving as a Major in the US Air Force, where he was recognized for his contributions to critical care and medical transport.  He has a deep commitment to advancing care for veterans and influencing healthcare policy at both the local and national level.

Dr. Curran will be joining our clinician educator faculty and will serve as Medical Director of the San Francisco VA Health Care System’s Home Based Primary Care program, which cares for veterans living in San Francisco, Oakland, and multiple Northern California communities.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Curran to the UCSF Division of Geriatrics faculty and San Francisco VA Health Care System!
