Welcome Monica Cheng!
This week we are delighted to welcome Dr. Monica Cheng to the UCSF Division of Geriatrics faculty. Dr. Cheng completed her UCSF Geriatric Medicine Fellowship this past June. She is joining our clinician educator faculty. She will be an attending for our UCSF Care at Home Program and for the UCSF Partnership in Geriatric Medicine with the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) Short-Stay Rehabilitation Unit. This includes teaching Geriatrics and Geriatric Palliative Care Fellows, medical residents, and medical students who rotate through these programs. In addition, she will be part of our Dementia Care Aware Program to improve dementia screening in clinical practice. During her Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Dr. Cheng developed her interest in providing medical care for complex older adults who are homebound and/or require more acute attention post-hospitalization, working together with a multidisciplinary team. She was part of the UCSF team who this past year substantially reduced hospital readmissions for UCSF patients discharged to SFCJL Short Stay Rehabilitation Unit. We also look forward to learning more from her about identifying and reporting elder abuse and neglect, which is a topic that she has researched and presented locally and nationally.
