Ashwin Kotwal Awarded NIA R01 to Address End-of-Life Isolation Among Older Adults

Ashwin Kotwal, MD, MS was awarded an 5-year R01 from the National Institute on Aging for the project entitled: "Dying Alone: Understanding and Addressing End-of-Life Isolation Among Older Adults." Co-investigators on the study include Alexander Smith, MD, MPH, MS, Krista Harrison, PhD, Elena Portacolone, PhD, MBA, MPH, John Boscardin, PhD, Jacqueline Torres, PhD, MA, MPH, Carla Perissinotto, MD, MHS, and Irena Cenzer, PhD. We will be examining trajectories that lead to end-of-life isolation among older adults, and interviewing a large number of people who experience serious illness alone and their care teams. The ultimate goal is to generate clinical guidelines and actionable steps to improve their quality of life.
