Welcome Angelica Martinez and Qiao Yu Kuang!

Please join us in welcoming Angelica Martinez (Research Program Assistant) AND welcoming back Qiao Yu Kuang (Program Analyst) to our Division!

Angelica Martinez

Angelica started this morning and will be working with Dr. Rebecca Sudore, the PREPARE team, and Dr. Louise Walter on supporting their research programs and studies.  Angelica graduated Summa Cum Laude from San Francisco State University (SFSU) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Holistic Health minor.

In her most recent role at the Suicide Crisis Support Center, she provided crisis intervention, suicide prevention support, and counseling to clients experiencing a crisis. Her ability to communicate fluently in Spanish and English helped her connect genuinely with her clients. She also worked as a Research Assistant at the SFSU psychology department. Under Dr. Sarah Holley’s Relationships, Emotion, and Health (REH) Lab, she was the leading assistant in multiple studies. At Dr. Melissa Hagan’s Stress, Trauma, and Resilience (STAR) Lab, she conducted literature reviews, recruited participants, and sent out study reminders.

As a Research Program Assistant, Angelica will work with multiple Principal Investigators (PIs) and their research teams on studies related to improving the health outcomes of older adults. She will also provide general support on research operations. Angelica will be onsite at Mission Bay on Thursdays and can be reached at [email protected]  if you need to get a hold of her. We are so excited she has joined our growing Division.  Please help us welcome her to the team!  😊

Qiao Yu Kuang

Qiao is back from her year-long Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Fellowship! She also started this morning and will be working with Dr. Josette Rivera and Dr. Anna Chodos as Program Analyst to support the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) and Dementia Care Aware (DCA) programs. Qiao has a Master of Public Health degree in Community Health Education from San Francisco State University (SFSU) and earned her B.S. in Public Health (Epidemiology & Biostatistics track) and Marine Biology from UC San Diego. Lastly, she is multilingual (able to read, write, and speak fluently) in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Toi Shan.

At the CDC, she worked as a Global Health/HIV Prevention Fellow, where she led multiple projects and completed two manuscripts for publication in high-impact journals. Before her fellowship with the CDC, she worked in our Division as the Age-Friendly Health System QI Program Coordinator. Qiao coordinated all the non-clinical quality improvement activities; at the same time, she was the Healthcare Navigator for Geriatrics Inpatient Service.

As a Program Analyst, Qiao will support both the GWEP & DCA programs primarily in data gathering, generation, interpretation and synthesis, disseminating findings and writing reports.  She will be onsite once a week (probably on Tuesdays, with the DCA team) and can be reached at [email protected] if you need to contact her. We are so glad that she’s back with us! 😊
