Welcome Irene Orellana Bonilla!

Please join us in welcoming Irene Orellana Bonilla, Clinical Research Coordinator, to the Division!

Irene started this morning and will be supporting Dr. Janice Schwartz in her research as a CRC.

Irene earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from UC Davis. She completed an internship at the Child Family Health International at Oaxaca, Mexico where she rotated in rural clinics and city hospitals shadowing specialists, primary doctors, and medical students. She also completed an ethnography of reproductive and sexual health attitudes and personal experiences in Oaxaca, Mexico, as well as taught sexual health classes in a coast primary school in Puerto Escondido. Irene is a certified medical assistant and has basic life support certification. She especially enjoys talking to patients and providing them health resources.

In her most recent role as Health Educator for the New Generation Health Center in San Francisco at UCSF and SFDPH, she assisted a teen clinic with checking in patients, scheduling appointments and triage. She also did various of counseling such as: STI testing and treatment, Pregnancy Options, Birth control, and HIV counseling. Prior to this role, she was a Clinical Research Coordinator at UCSF. She worked in various pregnancy/reproductive health studies. It’s well worth noting that Irene recruited over 1,000 participants for all these studies combined. She made sure every patient was informed about the studies in accessible language and consented properly.

Irene has a wealth of experience in coordinating multiple projects and working with all levels of stakeholders and is already well-versed with UCSF systems! In Irene’s new role as Clinical Research Coordinator, she will be responsible for study coordination, data collection, management, quality control and supporting all research protocol and regulatory responsibilities of Dr. Schwartz’ research studies.

Irene can be reached at [email protected] if you need to get a hold of her. She will be onsite once a week at our Mission Bay Office. We are so excited she has joined our growing Division.  Please help us welcome her to the team!
