Welcome, Maryam Khan, UCSF Clinical Research Coordinator and Staff Research Associate at NCIRE!

Please welcome Maryam Khan, UCSF Clinical Research Coordinator, to her new additional role as Staff Research Associate at NCIRE!

Maryam joined our team in October 2023 and will continue to support Dr. Theresa Allison in her research as a CRC at UCSF. Maryam graduated from UCSF with an M.S. in Nursing, MEPN Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPC-NP) degree. Before this, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Biology and a Pre-Nursing Track from UC Davis.

In her new role at NCIRE, Maryam will immerse herself in a dynamic array of responsibilities that lie at the heart of study recruitment and data collection. Her days will be a blend of engaging with potential participants, from screening and consenting to scheduling them for various assessments. She will conduct detailed telephone interviews, delve into both qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and extend her research activities to public events and in-home participant observation, with a special focus on music-related activities. Maryam’s dedicated efforts will be entirely directed towards the NIH-funded study, “The impact of music on well-being after diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease or its related dementias,” a pioneering mixed-methods research project hosted by the UCSF Music and Dementia lab. This study seeks to unravel the intricate connections between music, social wellbeing, and the lived experiences of individuals newly diagnosed with dementia. Recruitment and data collection will be the primary responsibilities, as detailed in the NCIRE position description.

Maryam has nearly six years of experience in clinical research. Her interdisciplinary training in psychology and nursing has uniquely equipped her for this role. She brings a wonderful blend of research coordination, qualitative expertise, and community engagement. We are grateful that Maryam is part of our Division and will continue to make a difference in this new expanded capacity! She can be reached at [email protected] if you would like to reach out and congratulate her!
