AIDS Walk - July 14th, 2019

Its that time of year- and has come quicker than anticipated- AIDS Walk SF is just two weeks away on Sunday July 14th!

You may be aware AIDS Walk has been a significant supporter of services for older adults with HIV, including for 2 years, the Golden Compass program at Ward 86  (our HIV and aging program) was a special beneficiary.  This is important as 60% of all people living with HIV in San Francisco are age 50 or older!

This year, Ward 86’s POP-UP clinic for homeless services is a major beneficiary along with Project Open Hand and Positive Resource Center.  Those familiar with Margot Kushel’s and Rebecca Brown’s work know how devastating homelessness is for older adults (for anyone but especially older adults!).  Project Open Hand now delivers meals to both HIV+ and HIV- older adults and Positive Resource Center provides mental health, employment counseling and substance use services to HIV+ adults, and is a community partner on our current Gilead funded grant to expand the Reach of Golden Compass services.

Additionally, each team receives a significant portion of funds they raise as a team directly back to clinical operations.

There are several ways you can support:

  1. Sign up as a walker (fundraising not required) and join Team 0098  https://sf.aidswalk.net/Team/View/107379/UCSF-Ward-86-0098
  2. Sign up as a virtual walker if you can’t join in person
  3. Make a donation to a team member   https://sf.aidswalk.net/MeredithG
