Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer James and mentor, Dr. Brie Williams, for being awarded the Diversity Supplement with the NIA

Congratulations to Dr. Jennifer James, Pepper PESC-CADC Alumni Scholar, and mentor Dr. Brie Williams, for being awarded the Diversity Supplement with the NIA. Through this award, Dr. James’ proposed research aims to elucidate barriers and facilitators to participating in a diverse community advisory board (CAB) about research on aging, incarceration, and health for key stakeholder groups affected by or living and working in carceral settings via focus groups with incarcerated older  adults, formerly incarcerated older adults, their loved ones, correctional healthcare providers, and corrections staff and administrators. It will also aim to describe ethnographically the implementation process of the Inside-Outside model by working with the CAB to develop the aims and methods of a research project focused on health and aging

Dr. Jennifer James is a sociologist and qualitative researcher at University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). She received a PhD in Sociology in 2016 from UCSF and now has a faculty position (Assistant Professor) at this institution. She is also a UCSF Population Health and Health Equity Scholar, former scholar in the Lifespan/Brown Criminal Justice Research Training Program, and 2019 Pepper PESC-CADC Scholar.
