Drs. Lo, Pierluissi, and Chang Co-Directs A Clinical Microsystems Clerkship Health Systems Improvement Curriculum Highlighted in New Article

UCSF Division of Geriatrics faculty, Drs. Daphne Lo, Edgar Pierluissi, and Anna Chang, are faculty co-directors of the COVID-19 elective for Medical Students in the Clinical Microsystem Clerkship, which was highlighted in this news article. Since the COVID-19 pandemic led to a temporary suspension of clinical rotations for many medical students, the Elective gave medical students the opportunity to contribute to health care systems undergoing rapid change and adaptation. More than 126 UCSF medical students participated in 38 projects across multiple San Francisco health systems that reached out to vulnerable home-bound older persons, supported those with limited English proficiency, and examined the pandemic's disproportionate impact on Latinx patients.  This experience has also resulted in 7 publications and at least 5 other papers are in development to inform policies going forward.
