In health care we are seeing a growing number of unrepresented older adults who are both unable to participate in medical decision making and who lack a surrogate decision maker. Many are complex socially and medically and caring for them presents ethical dilemmas for medical, legal and social service providers.  This presentation will present the current ethical challenges in caring for these adults and on-going work on upstream approaches to identifying and addressing unrepresented status.

Anna Chodos, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatrics and Division of General Internal Medicine at ZSFG.  She directs the Geriatrics Outpatient Consult services at ZSFG and focuses on the care of older adults in the safety net.
