UCSF GWEP Receives Third Year Funding!
HRSA has approved a third year of funding for the UCSF Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP). The UCSF GWEP is one of 48 across 35 states and 2 territories in the US. Led by Dr. Josette Rivera and Dr. Anna Chodos, the UCSF program features 15 UCSF Faculty who are actively training health and human service professionals, older adults, families and caregivers in Age-Friendly care. The GWEP curriculum covers issues of mobility, mind, medications and a range of other topics that matter to older adults, from infection control to advance care planning. The wide reach of this intervention extends from the schools of Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy, into four Rural VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinics, five Bay Area health systems, three Bay Area public health departments, and three San Francisco human service organizations. Over the past year, despite massive disruption to schedules and provider responsibilities from the Covid-19 pandemic, the UCSF GWEP provided 23 trainings to more than 500 learners in Northern California, and since November, 2020, Dr. Louise Aronson has been leading monthly provider information calls for 1200-1500 direct care professionals throughout the state of California.
