Welcome Mana Anvar!

Please join us in welcoming Mana Anvar, Research Program Assistant, to the Division of Geriatrics!

Mana started this morning and will be joining the growing Amend team as their new Research Program Assistant to provide support on program operations, evaluation, and communications efforts across a range of projects related to Amend, a health-focused prison reform program that delivers immersive learning and professional training programming to correctional professionals and partners with a range of stakeholders, including incarcerated people and their advocates, to advance a humane, healthy, and dignity-driven transformation of correctional culture in the U.S.  Mana has a Master of Science degree in Global Health from the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences, and a Bachelor of Arts in Molecular and Cell Biology and a Minor in English from UC Berkeley, so she is no stranger to the UC system!  Prior to her new role as Program Assistant for Amend, Mana worked as a Math and Science Teacher at Fusion Academy San Mateo, as well as a Graduate Student Researcher at UCSF Memory and Aging Center.  There, she conducted a secondary qualitative analysis under Professor Jalayne Arias evaluating how caregivers report behavioral concerns for criminal or civil liability exhibited by Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) patients enrolled in a longitudinal study on FTD at UCSF.  She was also a Staff Research Associate in the Department of Neurological Surgery under Dr. Scott Baraban where she studied the neuroanatomy and neurodevelopment of epilepsy mutants, as well as conducted zebrafish genotyping in larvae and adults, breeding adult larvae, locomotion experiments and analysis for drug screenings, and gene analysis.  She is the Founder and President of OverCOME (Obtainable Career Opportunities Mentorship Enrichment), a virtual career exploration program that aims to provide high school students from underserved backgrounds with resources and knowledge on their preferred profession.  I had a pleasure of meeting Mana this morning at her orientation and can already tell she’s as excited to start her new role as much as we are to have her!  Please join us in welcoming Mana to the Division.  Her email address is: [email protected] if you need to get a hold of her.  Her work phone will be ordered soon.  Thank you for your attention!
