GWEP receives $47K supplement award!

Josette Rivera, MDMichi Yukawa, MD, and the UCSF Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) team received a $47,500 supplemental award from the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to create educational experiences that encourage nursing and certified nursing assistant (CNA) students, as well as CNAs, to work in the nursing home environment.  We will leverage our presence and partnership with the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) where Dr. Michi Yukawa is the Post-Acute Care Medical Director in order to accomplish this important goal.  The COVID-19 pandemic has had an enormous toll on nursing home residents, their families and the staff who care for them.  The pandemic has also exacerbated longstanding nursing workforce shortages in nursing homes.  This project aims to fill the tremendous unmet need to improve and enhance the workforce in nursing homes, leading to improved overall quality and standard of care for geriatrics patients.  Congratulations Dr. Rivera, Dr. Yukawa and the GWEP team!
