Welcome Andrea Gonzalez!

Please welcome Andrea Gonzalez, GWEP Program Coordinator to our Division!

Andrea has joined our team today as our new Program Coordinator for the Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) funded by HRSA and led by Dr. Josette Rivera.  Andrea earned her MPH from SF State with a focus on Health Education.  She also has a Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  Most recently, Andrea participated in SFSU’s Big Data Summer Program, where she cleaned, coded and provided secondary analysis for Central American Resource Center’s longitudinal data in San Francisco.  While at SF State, she was also a Health Equity Institute Scholar and Intern where she assisted PI Emma Sanchez-Vaznaugh with data cleaning, coding, and merging of datasets for data analysis projects related to school-based obesity prevention policies and presented work to faculty and additional Health Equity Institute Scholars for review.  While completing her MPH, Andrea worked at Trader Joe’s as a Crew Member, which undoubtedly helped her to build strong customer service skills!  Of note: she was also in charge of suggesting, organizing and pairing wine selections for customers!  (I’m sure some of us can utilize her expertise in that area…J)  Back to seriousness: Andrea also worked at the SF Department of Public Health and conducted a literature review on housing, housing insecurity and homelessness within San Francisco, which is such an important and relevant issue in this day and age!  She helped to spearhead the crafting and execution of a community health assessment for Whole Person Care Initiative.  Some of her other skillsets include program management experience when she worked at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital ClimbCorps as a Public Health Cardiovascular Coach and Associate.  She helped to organize young professional networking event fundraisers for Cardiovascular Wellness Services and connected with 75-100 potential participants and contributors through cold and warm leads within the Boston area, on a weekly basis.  Lastly, she also volunteered/volunteers at the Social-Emotional Assessment / Evaluation Measure (SEAM) Assess Yourself to Success conference as a Facilitator and at Mutiny Radio as a Sound Board and Promotion Technician.

In her new role as Program Coordinator for the GWEP, Andrea will work closely with Dr. Rivera, the GWEP leadership team and staff to perform a full range of technical, operational and program-related duties to ensure program success!  She will also serve as the main liaison for program faculty, staff, community partners and key stakeholders as we aim to train healthcare, public health and social service providers in how to serve older adults with excellence and come together to better coordinate efforts across sectors.  As we expand our program to the North and East Bays (and beyond), we are very excited to work with Andrea as she brings with her a wealth of experience and excitement to her new role!  Andrea will be stationed at Laurel Heights, Suite 380 (right next to Karen), her email address is [email protected] and office phone number is 415-514-7561, if you need to get a hold of her.  If you see her, please make her feel welcome!
